GlobalX Sells Fort Lauderdale MRO Rights

GlobalX (G6, Miami International) has finalized an agreement with Xtreme Aviation Holding LLC, the owner of start-up 7 AIR, to sell its rights to develop a new MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) hangar facility at Fort Lauderdale International Airport. The financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed.

“This move aligns with our strategic focus on rapidly expanding our core passenger and cargo charter services,” stated Ryan Goepel, president and CEO of GlobalX, in a conversation with ch-aviation.

On May 20, Xtreme Aviation announced plans to bolster its hangar facilities by incorporating the new MRO capabilities at Fort Lauderdale. The facility, expected to be operational by the third quarter of 2025, is projected to generate a significant number of new jobs, between 300 and 400. Currently, Xtreme Aviation operates a hangar at Miami Opa-Locka Airport.

The forthcoming MRO facility, a joint venture with Sheltair Aviation Services, will span an impressive 70,000 square feet (6,500 sqm) and have the capacity to accommodate up to three aircraft simultaneously. It will boast a dedicated wash rack and additional ramp space for line maintenance, modifications, and ad-hoc repairs.

Global Crossing Airlines Group initially secured funding and plans to build the MRO facility last year at an estimated cost of $25 million. However, this project is among several that the company has recently canceled. Other dropped plans include the acquisition of widebody aircraft, the certification of its Colombian cargo subsidiary GlobalX Colombia, and a reduction in its fleet expansion plans by 15 aircraft over the next two years.
