Abra Group, the corporate entity behind Avianca Airlines and GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes, has agreed to purchase shares in Wamos Air, a Spanish company known for its ACMI and charter operations. This investment marks a strategic expansion for Abra Group to enhance its reach in long-haul international markets with widebody aircraft.

Adrian Neuhauser, CEO of Abra Group, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, highlighting three key benefits. Firstly, Wamos Air’s reputation and global reach in the ACMI and charter market make it an attractive partner. Secondly, its operational model aligns seamlessly with Abra’s goal to dominate the Latin American air transport sector, creating significant synergies. Lastly, the collaboration supports Abra’s strategy to extend its services beyond its existing Colombian base, further enhancing its global presence.

Details regarding the deal’s financial aspects and the exact stake acquired by Abra Group remain undisclosed, in alignment with EU regulations limiting non-European ownership of EU-flagged airlines to less than 50%. Abra Group and Wamos Air have not commented further on the financial terms.

Management structures at Wamos Air will remain unchanged, ensuring the airline continues its operations independently within its established business framework.

The completion of this transaction is subject to approval from regulatory authorities.

According to data from ch-aviation, Wamos Air’s fleet consists of ten aircraft, including four A330-200s and six A330-300s. It serves various ACMI clients like Corsair International, Air Europa, Saudia, and TAP Air Portugal. Avianca operates a combination of Airbus narrowbody and Boeing widebody aircraft, while GOL exclusively utilizes the Boeing 737 series.

In October 2023, Abra Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Aerolíneas Argentinas to enhance cooperation and explore new avenues in commerce, operations, and technology.
